Good Friday
Good Friday was a choice Jesus made that changed everything for all of mankind. He didn't have to do it. But he loved us so much that he choose to carry our sin and shame. To set us captives free.

Good Friday Wasn’t So Good- But It Changed Everything
Good Friday wasn’t “good” in the way we usually think of good. It was a day of suffering, pain, and sacrifice.
Jesus didn’t want to die. In one of the most honest and human moments recorded in Scripture, He prayed:
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” Luke 22:42
He knew what was coming- the pain, the humiliation, the weight of sin. And yet, He chose to submit to the will of God.
The Choice That Changed Everything
When Jesus chose to go to the cross, it wasn’t forced on Him. It was a decision.
A decision to endure unimaginable suffering.
A decision to take on the sin of the world.
A decision to make a way for us to come back to the Father.
“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death... even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:8
Crucifixion under the Roman Empire was one of the most brutal and horrific forms of execution. It was designed to maximize pain and shame.
And yet, Jesus knew this was the only way.
Carrying a Cross That Wasn’t His
Jesus walked to Calvary carrying a cross that wasn’t His. It was ours. “Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering… He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities.” Isaiah 53:4–5. Every step He took was an act of love. Every moment on that cross was for us.
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Breaking the Curse
When Jesus hung on that cross, something eternal was happening. He was breaking the power of sin. He was making a way for humanity to be restored to God. “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” Galatians 3:13
What looked like defeat was actually victory.
The Name Above All Names
Jesus didn’t stay in the grave- and because of that, His name carries power above every other name. “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name.” Philippians 2:9
And one day, everyone will recognize that truth:
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.” Philippians 2:10–11
Good Friday was filled with suffering- but it was also filled with purpose.
Jesus chose the cross so we could have life.
He endured pain so we could know freedom.
He gave everything so we could be brought back to the Father.
And what looked like the worst day in history became the greatest act of love the world has ever known.
