Learning to Trust God when You feel all Alone
Sometimes trusting God feels a lot easier when life’s full, the group chat’s alive, and friends are at your door. But when it’s just you, the sound of the fridge humming, and maybe your old faithful- in my case Baxter my springer spaniel… that’s when trusting God gets real. Thank goodness he is the best friend we can ever ask for! I’ve had those nights where I’ve said, “Lord, it’s just me again. Did You forget I’m still here?” (You know it’s bad when your prayer sounds like a voicemail.)

Even the Bible’s Best Had “Nobody Gets Me” Moments
Let’s talk Elijah. This man literally called down fire from heaven (1 Kings 18:38), but one chapter later, he’s hiding in a cave crying, “I’m the only one left, Lord!” (1 Kings 19:10).
God basically said, “Elijah, calm down. You’re not as alone as you think. I’ve got 7,000 others still standing.”
I love that. Because sometimes we do the same thing... throw a mini pity party, send out no invitations, and still somehow get mad no one showed up.
I do.
Lonely vs. Alone
There’s a big difference between feeling lonely and being alone.
Hebrews 13:5 says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That’s not a maybe. That’s a promise.
Even when you feel like nobody notices you, when you’re eating dinner solo or scrolling past family photos thinking, “Well, that looks nice”... God’s right there.
David felt that too. In Psalm 13:1, he says, “How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?” But then, just a few verses later, “But I trust in Your unfailing love.” (Psalm 13:5)
That’s the shift. From panic to peace. From “I’m forgotten” to “He’s still got me.”
Quit Trying to GPS God
You ever feel like you’re trying to track God’s location?
Like, “Where is he??? Why hasn't he done this for me yet?"
Psalm 139:7-10 says, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.”
So even if “the depths” look like your empty calendar or a car ride full of tears... You can’t lose Him. He’s not hiding.
He’s right beside you- always, always, always.
When Heaven’s Quiet- Don’t Panic
When God goes silent, it doesn’t mean He’s gone. Sometimes He’s just working the night shift while we’re pacing the hallway.
Remember when Jesus was asleep in the boat while the disciples were losing their minds in a storm? (Mark 4:38) They yell, “Teacher! Don’t You care that we’re drowning?!”
Jesus wakes up, tells the storm to hush, and basically says, “Why are you freaking out? I’m literally right here.”
Sometimes that’s exactly what He says to us: “Relax. I didn’t go anywhere.”
Laugh While You Wait
Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine.”
And listen- sometimes you just have to laugh in your loneliness, I know it isn't easy but it beats the alternative and honestly it makes it better- it heals.
Laugh at your situation. Laugh at your overthinking.
Laugh at the fact that you prayed for patience and now you’re stuck in a season where you get to use it.
God’s Got Receipts
Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”
And Jesus promised, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
That means He’s with you:
When the phone doesn’t ring.
When you’re drinking coffee alone.
When you cry in the car on the way to work.
When everyone else seems to have a “tribe” and you’re just trying to find one person who texts back.
Learning to trust God when you feel alone is like learning to dance in the dark, awkward at first, but once you realize He’s the one holding on to you, the fear fades.
So, chin up, mama. God’s not forgotten you. He’s not done with you.
One day you’ll look back and see that those lonely seasons were the times He was the closest- shaping you, strengthening you, and preparing you for the next beautiful chapter.
As Joshua 1:9 reminds us:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Even when “wherever” is your couch, in your comfiest pajamas, whispering, “Lord, please help me trust You."
PS- this has been my journey for the past 4 years. I have had the wildest ride. I am doing that very David thing right now- moments within seconds of despair to praise. A hard time- yet one I would not trade. My walk with Jesus is so much better and so much sweeter than what it was. While I am still not particularily thrilled in my current chapter- I know God is using it. He is shaping me. It only reminds me this world is not my home and Jesus truly is my ride or die.
